Apple, of course, hasn’t forgotten its most popular iPod, the touch. The iPod touch will run the iOS 5 once it’s out on October 12, and some of the new operating system’s features fit the device well. iMessage, Apple’s unlimited communication medium between iOS devices, works well with iPod’s wifi connection, for example.  The touch can also connect to the Apple iCloud — Apple’s cloud storage service that lets you access your content anytime you wish and anywhere you are, using any iOS device.

“He’s on another plane,” says Robert Sutton, a professor of management science at Stanford University. “He reached a level in the public consciousness that’s beyond that of anyone in modern times. I mean, my mother doesn’t know the name of (former General Electric CEO) Jack Welch.”

Sonnenfeld, who studies business leaders, compares Jobs — and his fame — to other “folk heroes” who’ve emerged in various fields at times of great change in our history, be it politics, culture, or, in this case, technology.
“What heroes do is personify complex change,” Sonnenfeld says. “It’s a shorthand that we use. It reduces things to the level of an individual.” Jobs’ ability to channel technology into products people didn’t even know they wanted — but then had to have — is “almost unfathomable,” he says.

In the 18-34 demographic, Nielsen found that social media buzz most closely aligned with TV ratings around the time that a show premieres. In other words, the social discussion was most likely to affect or correlate with ratings in the lead-up to a show’s launch or its first few episodes. In this scenario, a 9% increase in buzz volume correlates to a 1% increase in ratings.

Jobs, whose cause of death wasn’t revealed by Apple or his family, had battled cancer in 2004 and underwent a liver transplant in 2009 after taking a leave of absence for unspecified health problems. He took another leave in January — his third since his health problems began — and officially resigned as CEO in August. Jobs became Apple’s chairman and handed the helm to his hand-picked successor, Tim Cook.

According to Wozniak, Jobs told him around the time he left Apple in 1985 that he had a feeling he would die before the age of 40. Because of that, “a lot of his life was focused on trying to get things done quickly,” Wozniak said.
“I think what made Apple products special was very much one person, but he left a legacy,” he said. Because of this, Wozniak hopes the company can continue to be successful despite Jobs’ death.
