A witness of duality

By noah krol

Traveling with my partner Mairen, Trevor and Ally a few weeks ago I noticed a very interesting difference. A seeming division with Trevor and I on one side of the car and Mairen and Ally on the other. The discussion, primarily around global warming, was split down the middle and yet there was this balance between emotional, tangible and witness, acceptance. I have been doing a fair bit of reading lately on Tantric belief and philosophy,… More..

back to vancouver

By Sonja Podstawskyj

I’m heading back to Vancouver, to complete the second weekend of the Level One course.  The first weekend infused my practice with mindfulness.  I’ve had a wonderful few days with my brother and sister-in-law.  What a pleasure to walk in nature, to sit in stillness, to read under the sun, and to be alone.  I love being in the company of kindred souls.  I also savour my… More..

Living Gracefully

By Aleksandra

This month, it will have been a year since I was handed my very first yoga book.  Certainly at that point in my life, if I was to choose a yoga book, it wouldn’t have been “Yoga from the inside out”, by Christina Sell.  The book, with a forward by John Friend, Anusara Yoga Founder, is a teaching on grace and how to make peace the body. Despite the emotional upheavals from reading the book,… More..

Anusara Workshop with Sianna Sherman

By Aleksandra

This evening was the first day of a 3 day workshop with Sianna Sherman - a senior certified Anusara instructor. If I was to sum up this evening in two words: Authentic Compassion. Lots of people from around Calgary have gathered to attend Sianna’s first Canadian workshop. She has a wonderful presence, full of vibrant genuine strength, along with immense compassion and direction. She begun by saying that Yoga is… More..

Final week at KYM

By Trisha Wilson

Although nothing can compare to a Trinity closing circle the final day of the KYM International Program was certainly special.  Students and teachers shared a south Indian lunch served on palm leaves and a closing ceremony with speeches, chanting and certificates.  During the week we were treated to several special presentations - a classical dance performance and an asana demonstration by our teacher, Lara.  Between other dazzling feats he performed each vinyasa with one leg behind his… More..

Welcome Rosie

By Anna Colin

Rosie came into the world just after 10 pm on Saturday February 18th.  She chose to greet us two days before her due date on one of the coldest nights of the year.  So much happened the night Rosie was born it is difficult to formulate my swirling thoughts into words.  All of the common statements apply - “now that she is born I can’t imagine life without her” and “it was the… More..

Week 3 at KYM

By Trisha Wilson

Namaste. The third week at KYM ended with 2 related lectures:  Yoga and Mantras by Kaustub and the significance and classical steps of meditating OM by S.Sridharan and “Sir” ( how Desikachar is referred to with reverence). Who knew that chanting OM and other mantras traditionally begins with a prayer, then sipping 3 sips of water while reciting a specific mantra, than pranayama in preparation, then samkalpa or setting of intension, then nyasam - reciting the… More..
